When you think about frosting, the first word that comes to mind probably isn’t “organic”. However, this frosting I got to try might just throw that line of thinking right out the window. It was Ah-mazing!
Wholesome! has just launched the first ever Fair Trade Organic Frosting. Each of their frostings are made with the Wholesome! Fair Trade Organic Powered Sugar that you’ve come to love. The frosting is the perfect complement to cakes, cupcakes, and cookies (or in our case, a spoon!)
I’m going to go ahead and say that I’m kind of odd about foods, especially anything labeled “healthy”. Generally that label means it tastes nasty. However, I was really pleasantly surprised. The frosting tastes better than our usual brand. It does have a little bit of texture difference, however. The Wholesome! brand is less fluffy. I assume that’s because it’s made with real powdered sugar and not a bunch of chemicals you can’t pronounce. The frosting is also Organic, non-GMO Project Verified, Gluten Free, Kosher and Vegan. It doesn’t detract from the flavor at all, though, and actually made it work better for us.
Wholesome! sent me 3 flavors to review – Vanilla, Chocolate, and Wild White Strawberry. Each is delicious in its own way. My original idea involved baking cookies with the kiddo and decorating. However, we both got flu shots last week and neither one of us felt up to a big process. Instead, we made up some fun Reindeer cookies for daddy when he got home!
They were ridiculously easy to make. I saw this idea at a bake sale earlier in the week and adapted it a little to suit our needs.
Nutter Butter cookies
Mini Twist Pretzels
A bag of M&Ms
Candy pearls (optional – any small candy would do!)
Wholesome! Organic Frosting
- Put a larger spot of frosting on the top of a cookie – attach a pretzel for antlers.
- Add a medium-sized spot of frosting to the middle of the cookie – attach M&Ms for eyes.
- Add a tiny spot of frosting to the bottom of the cookie – attach a candy pearl for a nose.
- Recycle the containers – Wholesome! frosting jars are BPA free and recyclable!
Note: You could really make these pretty if you put the frosting in the bag and piped it on to the cookies. We prefer to slather. If you pipe it on there is no spatula to lick!
That’s all there is to it! I think they came out great. Even our Elf on the Shelf, Marty, loved them!
I love to support companies that believe in giving back, and Wholesome! is one of them. The company has paid over $11 million in Fair trade premiums to farming partners all over the world. This means that your frosting (or sugar or honey) purchase is helping to bring clean water, electricity, health care, and schools to places like Paraguay and Brazil. Who knew helping could taste so good?!You can find Wholesome! Organic Frosting in Whole Foods, Wegman’s, HEB, Earth Fare, Meijer, Giant Eagle, and other natural food stores.
Have you ever heard of organic frosting? What do you think you’d like or dislike about it?
