Being a visitor to the area, and never experiencing many of the Chicago style foods, we jumped at the chance to do the Navy Pier Food Tour.  Not only do you learn a little about the different foods, but you also learn a little about the history of the Navy Pier.

Chicago Style Hot Dog

Being from Michigan I’m use to a “Michigan Hot dog” (a.k.a. a Coney Dog for those Detroiters).  I’ve heard Chicago Dogs are quite unique, and I will admit they are.  There were 7 toppings on this particular hot dog.  To look at it, the combination of toppings did not blend in my head, but It was pretty tasty, I’d have to say.  I did pick off the peppers, but I know peppers don’t sit well with my tummy.

Tiny Tavern – Cheese Curds & Beer

I have heard so many great things about Wisconsin Cheese Curds.  But have NEVER been to Wisconsin to try them.  Surprise! The Tiny Tavern carried Cheese Curds.   I see why everyone brags about them.    While at Tiny Tavern, if you ordered the upgraded Tour package, you will get one glass of their brew.    One unique thing about Navy Pier, you can carry around an open beer, just as long as you don’t leave the pier.

Brown Sugar Bakery Cupcakes

Hubby and I both have a sweet tooth.  So, when stopped at the bakery, we both were in heaven.  I am typically very picky on the frostings when it comes to cakes and cupcakes.  I don’t like extremely sweet nor flavorless.  This cupcake had the perfect in between taste and texture!  There was a little caramel drizzled upon the frosting of this yellow cupcake.

Garrett Popcorn

I love popcorn as a snack.  We got to try their Cheddar and Caramel Mix.  Low and behold this was not an original combination to Garrett.    They saw the combinations of popcorn that their customers were making, and this was one of the most popular mixes!  It’s a perfect combination of popcorn.  I personally loved the caramel popcorn.

Gordinos Pizza

Out of the food tour, this was my FAVORITE place.   Our Food Ambassador informed us on how secret the recipe for all the pizza toppings are.  It’s a good thing that they keep it secret, otherwise I’m sure there will be many copy cats.

This particular tour was a 2-hour tour.  The Chicago Food Planet Tour offers 8 different tours, most of them being 3 hours long.   While you’re in the Chicago Area, make sure to take some time out of your day to take one of the tours.

Michigan/Coney dogs are hot dogs topped with a meat sauce (along the lines of a chili) and many times onions and mustard.

(TASTE A BIT OF CHICAGO WITH THE CHICAGO NAVY PIER FOOD TOUR) My brother use to attend this every year a few years ago. He does not get the chance to go as much now since he has been living in Round Lake Heights, IL. He sure always raved about the great food though.

First of all – GREAT photography! You made all of that food look incredible…and I’m sure it is. I am absolutely taking that tour next time I’m in Chicago. I’ve always been a fan of deep dish Chicago pizza…but I don’t think I’ve ever had it in Chicago…gotta correct that.

I was really surprised how good the Cheese Curds were. Especially since I’m not a huge cheese person. The pizza was by far my favorite ever
