Since we found out that Mr. D could not have anything dairy related we have struggled to find “treat” items especially when we go out to dinner. I have a hard time giving Miss Z a ice cream cone when her little brother cant have one too. Enter my father the problem solver… We have been fortunate to find that Mr. D loves frozen drinks a la Tim Horton’s Raspberry frozen lemonade or his absolute favorite McDonald’s Cherry Berry Chiller. So my dad asked the awesome people at our local McDonald’s to put the cherry berry chiller in a cone so he could match his sister’s ice cream cone.

He loves his cherry berry cone or cup :]

We stopped at Tim Hortons for a Frozen Raspberry lemonade and he wanted a Tim Bit too, we minimized the after effects with a single plain doughnut. The tummy troubles after were combated with some liquid antacids and it made his day to be just like everyone else.

Another cool treat that we found was a lemon meringue pie which he absolutely LOVED. We assumed wrongly that there was no dairy and the effects were not pretty. My wonderful Mother-in-Law made a home made Mr. D friendly pie for him to enjoy.

I have issues with dairy as well. I’m a big fan of the frozen drinks that are at McDonalds and Burger King now.

I have some dairy issues as well and I appreciate your posts very much. It is easier to find safe foods by sharing with others.

It must be a real challenge for mom to stay ahead of the dairy -related foods with substitutes etc.It sounds like it could involve a lot of trial and error foods too.So far though it sounds like you are doing an amazing job.

It can be so difficult going out and eating when you are dealing with a food allergy. My son’s peanut allergy keeps us from eating out any where because you just don’t know. Better safe than sorry though. I am glad that your family can find places that you can go and enjoy!
