Soy Sunday: Strawberry Banana Smoothies
When my husband and I first started dating we would go for walks in his neighborhood with his 4 dogs. About 4 blocks from his house was a Dairy Queen that he used to walk to and get a blizzard and a “cookie” for the dogs. Well soon it became a thing with us. We would go for a walk on Sundays and get a blizzard, a cookie for each dog and walk home. We continued this tradition through out both my pregnancies and until we moved to out to the country in which the closest DQ was a minimum 15 minutes away by car and then we found out Mr. D couldn’t have it. So the tradition went to the way side. Unless we didn’t have Mr. D with us and even then I felt guilty because he couldn’t enjoy the tradition with us.
On a whim one day I stopped at DQ for lunch and asked them if they had any Dairy free options. To my surprise they did! They brought out the ingredient information for their chicken tenders and told me their smoothies were dairy free if they used water instead.
So Mr. D and I decided to check it out for lunch… Needless to say my munchkin enjoyed it and that made this Mama really happy.
This past Wednesday Mr. D asked for a smoothie again… with him being sick and myself not feeling the greatest I decided to make one at home for us. It was fairly easy with all the ingredients on hand.
For his I used his vanilla soy milk, vanilla ice cream, fresh cut strawberries and bananas
I used 3/4 of a medium size banana, 2 medium strawberries, cut up into small pieces.
I used about 3/4 cup of soy milk and 3 tablespoons of ice cream.
I love my magic bullet! My little brother bought it for me when I was pregnant with Mr. D and I have definitely used it. Its so simple, but the kids hate the sound.
Apparently it wasnt “red”enough for him, so I added about a teaspoon of strawberry syrup.
After a few spins in my Magic Bullet… we had ourselves a smoothie
He was one happy little man!
