As most parents can agree, children love lunchables despite the fact that they are absolutely no good for them despite the hype and the newer versions. I am guilty of buying them and giving them to my kids when necessity out weighs time and common sense. But for Mr. D its pretty much a waste of money as he can’t really eat the whole thing. So, thank you pinterest and other some other mommy bloggers out there, I decided to make my own lunchable for Miss. Z to take to school and what Miss. Z has Mr. D must have as well or… well… lets just say it’s not really pretty.
I found these pretty awesome containers made by Rubbermaid called LunchBlox (check them out here: http://www.rubbermaid.com/category/pages/subcategorylanding.aspx?CatName=FoodStorage&SubCatId=LunchBlox )
These containers make it easy to store and keep the kids foods cold. There are many different types of LunchBlox and they are all interchangeable. Best of all they are really easy for the kids to open. The one pictured above is the Salad container. The divider is meant to house salad toppings and comes with a little dressing container. I do use it for salads, but I also re-purpose it for lunchables.
In Mr. D’s lunchable I have wheat crackers, beef bologna (its cut up into shapes to make it fun to eat) and his cheese (cut into squares). I also have fresh cucumber slices, applesauce and his newest favorite cookie- mini nutter butters. I also include a apple juice and a Silk depending on his preference for that day. For Miss Z, her’s is almost identical except she gets american cheese and yogurt as well as mini chocolate chip cookies and a Milk.

Courtney: these are not store bought lunchables so you can make them with her favorites instead. i usually take lunch meat and cut it into fun shapes like butterfly’s or flowers, triangles or sunbursts and put them in there. My daughter loves the lunchables but they are never enough for them so i have modified the idea of a lunchable to fit our needs. Check out my facebook album for other ideas too… https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10151990913447892.1073741832.722477891&type=1&l=11f7fda32f

This is such a good idea and great way to get kids to eat healthier food. I think that even an adult could use the containers for lunch too.

Easy to do & you can change it all up with anything a child loves & not have to spend the $$$ in the grocery store for what you can do from home & the child is happy in return makes mom happy!

I agree, children just doesn’t care if its good or not. I don’t pack lunch for my kids but in the future i am planning to prepare their lunch. i saw nice and cheap bento but this one looks bigger with more room to put different foodies.

This is cool, I admit we got lunchables for the kids twice this week, more or less, because we were in the middle of moving and everything was packed.. not much of an excuse, but hey.. haha
They usually have a sandwich, snack & drink..
