There is less than 2 weeks before school starts. Typically we are rushing all over the town trying to find everything we need. But this year we decided to take a trip to DICK’s Sporting Goods ® to get the Back To School necessities for Lil C.
Many people think of Dick’s Sporting Goods as just a place to get your hunting/fishing and sports gear only. But they actually carry way more than just Sports equipment. They have Backpacks, Lunchboxes, apparel and Shoes for Men, Women and Kids alike! Lil C is a LOT like his mommy. He has great taste in brands! One of our favorite brands is Under Armour. And to see the great selection of T-shirts, Shorts and Hoodies, made both of our days. You could tell that Back To School shopping has already started. All the “Cool” shirts were almost sold out. But he did find one that was in his size that he just HAD TO HAVE! (shhh, I found a couple shirts that I just HAVE to Have, but we were shopping for Lil C, So I’ll have to go back another time)
The next thing that was on Lil C’s list was a new lunch box. He has graduated from the cartoon character lunch boxes to wanting to have something that represents him. He chose a bright neon yellow and black lunch box. And peanut decided that she must have a Pink Purse like Lunch bag. Now on to backpacks. DICKS Sporting Goods carries all the great brands; Jan Sport, Nike, Reebok, Adidas, Under Armour and The North Face. One thing that I have learned while I was going to school was to make sure you pick out a good back pack. And also to check out the warranty that the backpacks may carry. Our final stop at DICKS Sporting Goods was the Shoe Department. This is where I actually feel at home. Years ago, I worked in a footwear department, so I was quite use to measuring and grabbing the shoes myself. That is one thing that I had to hold back on while shopping at DICKS Sporting Goods. They have a Full Service Footwear Department. (Full Service is where the shoes are all in the back storage room, and your sales associate has to give you full attention)
Some of my Shoe Shopping Tips:
- A Proper fit is a MUST HAVE! Even though you know your child will grow over the year, don’t try to get a shoe that you thing will still fit at the end of the year. I know that shoes can be expensive, but not having a proper fit – especially on young kids, can cause problems with your feet/ankles/knees/hips later on.
- Not only is length important in a pair of shoes, but make sure you get the proper width. There is nothing like having a wider foot and stuffing it into a narrower shoe!
- Make sure you know if you have a High, Neutral or Flat Arch (especially if you’re in adult size shoes). There are shoes made specifically with your arch style in mind. Also, knowing if you have Flat feet or overly high arches, will help you in the long run if you see you’re having knee/hip/ankle problems.
- If you have a price point that you need to stay in, let your sales associate know at the beginning. That way they aren’t showing you shoes that are Overly outside your budget, and then you fall in love with them.

Best back to school tip is shop early for school supplies

My best back to school shopping tip is to not wait till the last minute. You’ll end up spending more that way, and also you won’t find everything you need.

Earlier this year, I found some clearance folders at Target (back when I shopped there). My tip is to keep your eyes peeled for clearance during the off-season, so to speak!
