I have always been intrigued by the Medieval Era. Lords and Ladies… Kings and Queens… The Style of dress… The lifestyle…The Chivalry…The Castles… and of course The “Games”. So when I had the opportunity to work with Medieval Times Orlando, I knew that was a MUST GO TO on our Honeymoon.
A little about the Florida Castle:
The Kissimmee Castle’s towering, white walls — set off by a moat and drawbridge — have a commanding presence over the Orlando landscape. The Kissimmee Castle was Medieval Times’ first in North America, opening in 1983.
This location offers more than a glimpse into the life of medieval royalty. In addition to our signature medieval jousting tournament and royal feast, our Kissimmee Castle also features an authentic eight-cottage medieval village.
When we first arrived, we walked around and grabbed ourselves a drink from the bar. The doors were not open yet, So we looked around the castle. Soon they opened the doors and then called everyone in to their seats -by section colors and rows. The hubs and I were seated in the first Row. Which excited me – I have never sat so close before!
Our meal was served on Pewter plates – and With out any utensil. Dinner consisted of Tomato soup, Chicken, Spare Rib, Potato and Garlic Bread. There was a Pastry for dessert, but I gave that to the Hubbs since I was Stuffed after our meal. The piece of chicken they served was enough to feed myself and my son! And for those who are Vegetarian, they do have meals just for you.
Our night of presentations started with the Horses. Such majestic creatures they are! Graceful and agile! The Pure Spanish Horse was prized by medieval royalty for its astonishing strength, agility and even temperament. All the Medieval Times Horses are raised at the Medieval Times’ Chapel Creek Ranch in Sanger, Texas.
After watching the Horseman ship, we got to learn about the Royal falconer. A little about the Royal Falconer from the Medieval times Website: The Royal Falconer performs wonders with his mighty birds of prey.
The tournament includes a live flight of the royal falcon, soaring over the heads of the King’s guests – an ancient ceremony dating back to time forgotten” This Falcon was indeed well trained. I tried really hard to get a picture of him swarming over our heads, but the Falcon was too fast for my camera! Then on to our Knights!
Each section rooted for a different Knight! We had the Blue Knight as our Knight. Each of the Knights competed in games – and the prize was a flower from the princess! In turn, the Knights would toss the rose(s) that they won into the audience! Watching the Knights with their accuracy was amazing! Being on a horse, With a long pole – aiming for their rings. Completely Amazing! But the one thing that Knights and Medieval Times is well known for is their Jousting.
Each of the Knights had an opportunity to Joust – to the death. It started with the Knights on their horses with their joust, racing towards each other, trying to stab them or or knock them off their horse.
As long as the Knight wasn’t injured too badly, they would then grab a weapon of their choice and fight man to man. Our Knight won his Joust, but then the Winner from the previous round challenged him. Needless to say, That was the last our particular Knight Fought. This castle was Amazing!
The food was superb and the entertainment had me sitting on the edge of my seat! There are 8 Castles in the US and 1 in Canada. I cant wait until the next time that we take the family on Vacation. I know both the kids would LOVE the opportunity to watch an amazing performance!
If you are ever in the Orlando Area, make sure you take a moment to stop by the Kissimmee Castle!
*I received entrance to this show in exchange for this post. All opinions expressed are 100% my own.
