A few years ago, I came across a pretty glass block filled with Christmas lights at a garage sale. It had a raggedy red bow around it, but there was something about it that I loved. So I grabbed it for $5. I won’t tell you what my husband had to say about buying Christmas decorations in the middle of June. Let’s just say that he didn’t see the value in it. Anyway, I brought it home and stuck it in the closet. When Christmas time came, I took it out, plugged it in, and replaced the ribbon. It’s still one of my favorite decorations.
I didn’t think the glass block idea could get any better, but it did. Enter Creations by Janice. She takes the glass block idea and compounds it by placing vinyl scenery on it. The blocks are so pretty you could really use them all year round. Imagine this in a log cabin in the woods somewhere?
Our family just moved from the country to the city, and we really do miss seeing deer every day. We aren’t a hunting family so I didn’t care too much for this design, but I really like the blocks that say welcome. The glass block is 6×6 and decorated with commercial grade vinyl. The lights inside are your general run of the mill Christmas lights, so down the road you can replace them if they break or if you want to change up the colors. The glass is thick and sturdy and short of dropping it from a high ledge. I’d say it will likely last for many years.
Each block is uniquely designed and handcrafted by Janice Lam, a Georgia artist. The blocks come ready for gift giving and already have a nice bow on them. No wrapping necessary! That’s always a bonus for me because I’m so busy this time of year. The bow was all crunched up from shipping, but as you can see, I fluffed it back up pretty nicely. This block will be going to a friend of ours who is a hunter.
Janice does custom designs, so if you’d like something different, I’m sure she can accommodate. Check out her Etsy shop today!
