A little about Lemons and lavenders:  Author Billee Sharp shares her freecycling, budget-savvy, barter-better wisdom in this step-by-step handbook for revolutionizing spending habits and reclaiming quality of life. Lemons and Lavender is an inspiring and instructive guide to living the handmade life by consuming less and creating more. Practical and profound, this handy how-to covers every area of life and offers easy-to-do tips, recipes, and advice for saving money and the planet. Learn how to ditch your lawn and raise organic vegetables, cook healthy meals for pennies, cure minor maladies from the kitchen cabinet, save big dollars with small repairs, and eco-clean your house with lemons and lavender. With this guide, families can live more joyfully and far more creatively, all on a dime.

Being a newly single mother, I have realized how much it actually costs to run a household.   Thankfully I have been able to do so these past 9 months… But there are a ton of GREAT tips in this book.   Some of my favorite tips  are:
1.  Keeping a Change Jar.  I have always had some type of Change Jar, but Since moving out on my own, I have made sure that any change that I had from my day, went right into the change  jar.  This jar – in 9months – is Almost completely full ( and it was only a quarter full when i moved)
2.  Save a dollar a day.  This is something that I have yet to do, but it is a super great idea.  If you think about it.  1.00 a day … times 365 day  – is a good chunk of change.  You can put this towards bills, or if you have kids, put it towards their college fund.
There are another 200 plus pages of great tips and suggestions.  You can purchase this book online for $15.95.

I appreciate the post, I have heard of the change jar and we always puts our change in the jar (an empty pretzel container) and cash it once a year for our vacation.

I started to save all $5 bills that came my way and I did that for a few months and was surprised at the money. I put that towards Christmas gifts.
