As you know, we were able to spend the night at MotorCity Casino Hotel last month. As part of our stay, were able to experience our dinner at Iridescence Restaurant. This whole night was a surprise to hubby. Before us going he was told that we were eating at an upper scale restaurant. Since I have never been there before, I personally did not know what to expect. We chose to attend dressed in “business Casual” style.
A Little about Iridescence:
“Located at the top of the town, Modern American cuisine is complemented by breathtaking city views and a Wine Spectator Award-winning wine list. As the only 4-Diamond restaurant in the city of Detroit, Iridescence is a gem at the top of the city.”
We had our reservations set a few weeks in advance. It was for 6:30 that night. Upon arrival, we were greeted at the door and taken to our table. We had a window side table – and what a view. When we arrived, it was still a little lighter out, and through the night we got to watch the sun set and the lights of the Ambassador bridge grow bright. It definitely helped increase the mood of the night.
Our host brought us the menus. We are so use to going out to dinner and reading a paper menu, so when we were handed a tablet we were quite thrown off. I thought that I would hate using a tablet to try to figure out what I wanted to eat, but I was completely wrong. The one nice thing about this set up is if you are curious on what your choice would look like, all you have to do is tap on the name of the meal; a Picture of what you are planning to order will appear. (Don’t let the photos fool you, even though the portions may look “Small” they are quite filling) I think our eyes were way bigger than our stomachs.
The food at Iridescence:
Your meal comes in multiple courses (if you so choose). Both the hubby and I started off with an appetizer. We both choose the Potato-Crusted Crab Cake. This crab cake was HEAVENLY! I loved the Salt and Vinegar Potato Crisps that were on top of the crab cakes. It’s not something I would have ever thought to add to a plate like this.
For our main course I chose the Roasted Chicken and hubby chose the New York Strip. Both meals came out perfect! Hubby’s New York Strip was not over cooked, nor was it under cooked. The 12oz New York Strip came served three ways: Detroit (house-made worcestershire sauce, bone marrow croquette, pickled red onion), Oscar (crab cake, brown butter béarnaise) and Classic (Robuchon potatoes, grilled asparagus, red wine mustard.) I don’t think I could have chose a better meal for myself. I typically lean towards chickens when I order meals, and this was probably one of the best chicken entrees that I have had in quite some time. Even though I was starting to get full, I couldn’t let any of the chicken go to waste.
And as they say, Save the best for last. And that is what we thought about dessert. The Hubby and I split a “Milky Way”. The chocolate from this just melted in our mouths.
Would I visit Iridescence again?
The answer is YES! This is not some place that we would go every week, or even every month. It is a place that is perfect for those special occasions, like Anniversaries. Hmmm, Speaking of anniversaries, maybe I should start hinting to hubby that our Anniversary/Birthday Week is coming up soon!

Oh, my word! Those dishes were beautiful! How creative and inspiring! If I ever get out that way, I will definitely have to try this restaurant. The view of the bridge is amazing.
