It’s funny how kids now a days are so Technology dependent. And its not just handheld video games that they want to play… But it’s also the smart phones and tablets and iPads that they want to use. Thankfully lil C doesn’t mind playing the games that are already pre-loaded into my phone or tablet.. But lil Miss defiantly loves being able to connect to watch videos and surf the web. What they don’t always seem to remember is the Internet doesnt just appear out of thin air. We need connections like wi-fi, internet connections, Cell phone Data plans or sky broadband connections.
Last weekend we took the kids up north for the first time this summer… And this was lil C’s first time Up-North since Jeff and I have been together. All the times we came up last year, lil C was with his daddy. When he found out we were going on a mini-vacation, he was excited and packed right away. Due to the fact that it is a 3 hour drive each way, he made sure to bring a handful of books to read… But those only lasted him 1/4 of the drive. That’s when he asked to watch Netflix. We’re on the middle of the freeway… No televisions around, but we did have our Cell phones – with Netflix uploaded to it. Thankfully our Cell phone package comes with a Data plan… And thankfully we don’t use a ton of Data, so at least there was data coverage so he could watch some shows… And boy it was a peaceful ride all the way up…
When we got to the cottage, lil C quickly learned that there is VERY little Internet/Data connection up there. He was lucky there was enough connection to receive phone calls. But being only 6, his attention was easily drawn to the boats and the newness of the cottage to him. That next day he didn’t once ask about watching Netflix or trying to access any online kids games. Until it came time to head home. Lil C knew that there was a LONG drive ahead of him. And the first thing that came out of his mouth – even before he buckled up so we could leave – was Can I watch Netflix!!!! Oye!
