The weather outside may be frightful, but who said your home can’t be delightful? The wonderful people at Oak Furniture Land, a new online furniture store, has shared three tips with me that will help create a warm winter home.

Add Texture

One way that you can make your home feel warmer is to add some textures.    By adding textures you can make your home feel warmer and a little more intimate.  During the winter you can find a nice heavy throw blanket on the backs of each of our couches.  These blankets tend to be made out of the cuddly and soft fabrics like Minky and Fleece.  This is also the perfect time to change your curtains from spring/summer to fall/winter.  Adding a heavier curtain during the fall and winter months will also keep the heat from escaping your rooms

Adjust your Lighting

Who would have thought that adjusting your lighting during the winter would make a difference in how your home feels and looks.  During the winter evenings you should really try to avoid using overhead lighting, unless you have your lights on a dimmer.  Dimmer lights will seem less harsh on the eyes. Instead of using all overhead lighting, try to add table and accent lamps around the room.  Having a softer light will provide a warmer ambiance in your home.

Invest in Warmer Furniture

The holidays are the perfect time to get new furniture.  This winter take a look at some warmer toned pieces.  Some of my favorite pieces can be found on Oak Furniture Land. You can easily warm up a family room with a honey toned, rustic TV stand or use a side table with both grey and oak tones for colder rooms that could use more comfort this winter.
