Acorn DisclosureI love watching home renovation and home flipping shows.  You’d be surprised at how many ideas you can get just from watching a few episodes.   And now that we’re looking at moving, it is time to put some of the lessons we learned into play.    I have realized that I’m not sure which is harder – looking for a house to buy, or preparing your own home to put on the market.  Right now, I have to say getting our house ready to sell is a little more difficult.  Not only do you have to make sure that its still functioning for yourself, but you have to worry about making sure that it is neutral and open enough that others will enjoy viewing your house too.  Oh, and you need to make sure that it is Clean!  Walmart has you covered on the products you need to sell or purchase a home.  Here are  a few tips that we have learned along the way of our house selling journey.home post 007a

Before putting your house on the market

Bathroom-makeoverSometimes updating a room will help with the sale of your house.  You can easily turn an outdated Bathroom into a more modern looking one.   We originally had a Peachy color Shell shaped sink with a bland looking cabinet  in our bathroom.  I hated it – and I know many upcoming buyers would prefer something a little newer.  So I talked hubby into a date night, and we went to pick out a new sink top.  The cabinet part was still in solid condition, so all it needed was a little refinishing.    Just putting a couple hundred dollars into a bathroom, can make a HUGE difference

Also try to make sure you have a neutral color palate on the walls!  Lighter colors make the rooms appear bigger.  This works great for small rooms.  If you have a Large room, you can get away with a darker shade.  I know when I am looking at houses, I have a hard time picturing how a room would look if I know the colors are going to clash with our furniture.   You don’t have to do a sterile all white color, but tans and soft tones like that work great!

After your house goes on the market

If you have kids, you will understand how hard it is to keep your house Showing ready.  But these are some of the things that we do to keep everything  ready for showing.
1) Make sure all your dishes are done and not sitting in the sink.  I will admit, there has been times where everyone will be home, and the sink will somehow get piled up.  I LOVE having a dishwasher for this reason alone.  Just load all the dishes in the dishwasher, and voila.  They’re gone!  Now your sink will be clean! bouty3

2) Involve the kids in cleaning!  For some strange reason Peanut likes to clean up spills and some messes (just not her toys).    As I was straightening the other room making sure all the tables & decor were dust free, I caught peanut grabbing some of the Bounty Paper Towel and our kid friendly cleaner and started wiping down the cabinets.  Charmin Febreze Unstopables3) When I know that someone is going to be coming to see the house, I make sure to put the towels that match the shower curtain to keep the small room uniform.   I also make sure to keep the Toilet paper roll full and make sure that that the room smells fresh!  You know how it can be living with boys!  That’s why I love having a can of  Febreze Unstopables and Charmin toilet paper at easy access!products

You can find the Necessities like Tide, Charmin, Bounty and much more at your local Walmart.   How do you make sure your home is Ready to be put on the market?New Home Checklist
