The hubs and I came from two similar, yet different backgrounds. My parents owned businesses for most all my life, and so did his. But the difference was the kinds of businesses. The hubs family actually owned a farm. When I think farm, I always thought vegetable plants and animals… But I did find out there are different kinds – you have your dairy farms, You vegetable farms, your cattle farms and then your grain farms. So when I heard that there was a Video Game based off Farming, I was intrigued.  Maxim Games sent me a copy of Farming Simulator to feature in this years Holiday Guide.

A little about Farming Simulator:  Farming Simulator invites you into the demanding world of a modern day farmer, with BRAND NEW content! Take on all the fun challenges of farming life, including animal breeding (cows, chicken, and sheep), growing and harvesting crops, purchasing animals and selling their byproducts, and operating more than a hundred farming vehicles and machines. It’s up to you to manage and grow your own farm in a huge open world, which includes an all-new American environment. Featuring the biggest names in farming, you’ll drive tractors, tillers, and all sorts of large and powerful vehicles that will help you create the farm you’ve always dreamed of! (Maximum Games)

I have always talked to my hubby about what it was like working on a farm – using the big tractors and grain bins… Now with Farm Simulator I know.  I also realized that I’m not coordinated enough to drive a tractor!  Especially in a video game.  My hubbs took my driving away from me about 5 minutes after I started this game!  This game is rated E for Everyone – So you don’t have to worry about your 7 yr old playing a game that is Not rated for him.   Farming Simulator is geared towards people of all ages.  The younger ones have fun just playing the games, where the older ones actually try to create the best farm!farming-simulator

You can purchase this on Amazon.com.  You can get this for the PS3 or XBox360 or PC (Windows and Mac).

If you would like to try the free PC demo, you can find it at farming simulator.com

We have this game and it is a lot of fun to play. I’m so much more of a city slikker, but it’s fun to play farmer for a few hours. My young nephew thinks it’s awesome.

It would be great for kids to see what farms are really like these days – no hayseed and industrialized. As a non-meat-eater, I do wonder how the animals are treated in these sims….

I look at this and think of the days when Farmtown was popular on Facebook. I think I would actually like this game! But I don’t have an Xbox 🙁 Do they make it on Wii?
