Elmer’s is helping Students Get ready for School. And if you are like me… I love Techie Stuff . So when I heard that Elmers Created a 1st Day App for the Adndroid, I knew I needed it. What is Elmers The First Day? It is a unique App and Website that was created to capture those treasured photos and memories of your Child’s First Days of School! You can download this app for your phone from the App store, or you can always visit the “1st Day” App download.
How does this app work?
Elmer’s 1st Day™ app works in three ways:
- Capture – The new app allows you to snap photos of your kids on the big day in addition to those special “firsts” and other important events the whole year through so you can watch them grow.
- Create – Turn your favorite 1st Day memories into custom keepsakes. You can personalize photo memories with quotes or captions and organize them by date, child and album.
- Share – The app makes it easy to share albums, notes, slideshows and special moments with family and friends to treasure.
For every photo uploaded, Elmer’s will donate one product to The Kids in Need Foundation (KINF) (up to 200,000 products). Why did Elmer’s choose this organization? Elmer’s is committed to the education of children and innovation for educators who inspire them to learn. With that in mind, the company is a proud sponsor of The Kids In need Foundation and currently supports the Elmer’s Teacher Tool Kit Program to provide much- needed funding and supplied to educators. Based on the success of this partnership, Elmer’s chose to donate additional resources to The Kids in Need Foundation through this1st Day™ initiative.
So with all the excitement from Elmers, I decided that It is time for me to GIVE back to someone. I know how hard it can be trying to live paycheck to paycheck and send your kids to school. That’s how I felt in Previous years. But this year is Different. I still have the same jobs, but I seem to have a little more at the end of each pay week. So with this in mind, I am going to Help some others who may have gone through some tough times.
The school district that I reside in – does have a LOT of lower income families. And I figured that this is a good way to Give back to the community. So I went to Walmart to check out their back to school selection and start a little #BagItForward. I know where I am going to give the Supplies to – and I know they will chose the appropriate children for the receipt! I am donating a couple of Back to School Kits to my local Elementary. At least1 girl and 1 boy will get to start off the school year with the supplies that they need.
So, This is the journey. I started looking on the 6th of July. I didn’t have to be at work til later, So my mom and I took a Drive out to the Local Walmart. And to our surprise what did we find… Actually not much of anything. The shelves were ALL bare! So, we quickly turned around and drove a mile or so up the road to the other Walmart – in hopes that they had a little better selection. Well, this Walmart did have a little better selection… But they only had Binders and Folders out. They didn’t have the Essentials yet! I was sad. But we walked around Walmart for a little bit – and I did find something that I really liked. So this trip didn’t go to waste. I got a new Deck Patio Table out of the deal. And boy was it a deal! It was a 6 piece set (4 chairs, table and umbrella) for only 97.00! Wahoo! I did talk to the employees (one was actually a manager) and they said they would be working on setting up the Back To School Department Mid week. So Until then, I waited patiently. Due to the fact that the rest of my work week was going to be crazy, I went back to Walmart on Wednesday to check the Section. Thankfully it’s not too far of a drive – and never is it a wasted Trip when I go to Walmart. At least this time, I was able to find some of the Great ELMERS products that EVERY school kid can use. There were at least 8 people working in the back to school section. The shelves were still fairly empty – but they do have the bare necessities – Pencils, Pens, Paper, Folders and Glue!
It took me a little bit to navigate around the section. There was a pallet of freight on the floor that they were working on in the main aisle. I am pretty sure one of the boxes said Backpacks.
So After shopping for at least 30 minutes in the aisles, I came up with 3 sets of School supplies – one for Lil C and 2 for students at my local elementary. I figured that I would be fair and I created 1 kit for a girl and 1 kit for a boy. You can view my whole shopping Experience Here.
This is what each student will receive:
Flat 2 pokcet folder (Blue for Boy, Purple for Girl)
Notebook (Blue for Boy, Purple For Girl)
Elmers Glitter Glue
Elemers School Glue
A couple of Elmer’s Glue sticks
Scissors (Orange for Boy, Pink for Girl)
Pack of Pencils
Pencil Sharpener
Pack of Erasers
Pencil Box (Blue for Boy, Pink for Girl)
With the schools being closed for the summer, it has been hard to get a hold of the principal. I found out that she may be on vacation, So I asked one of the Instructional Assistants to accept these School Supplies inlue of the Principal. She graciously accepted – and I know she probably already has some students in mind. This I.A. is very Camera Shy, but because it is a good cause… She took a picture with Lil C… Loved it! Great way to Represent Robbie Hall Parker Mrs. B!
I am really hoping to get back to Walmart before the school year. I want to pick up a back pack and a few more supplies that I can donate to the school. This year I have been blessed with some good things – and it is only fair to Pay It Forward!
I LOVE the idea of the #BagItForward Program. I am actually thinking that I need to find a way to get my community involved a little more. Education is so important – and so is having your own supplies. Not only does it help when it comes to in class time – but it also helps the student feel a little more confident when they go to class. Ugh! My Walmart has had school supplies out for over a week! I think every store gets a little crazy about putting things out early. Not just school supplies but holiday stuff too.
I’m downloading this app now, and telling my daughters about it. That way, I’ll be sure to get first day pics of all the grandkids!
