For most senior boys, prom is a time to help celebrate the completion of four years of high school. For senior girls, however, it is an opportunity to make on last fashion statement. The type of prom dress that seniors choose should be representative of her personality. The chosen prom dress should also allow her to elegant and regal; two things that can be difficult to feel while in high school. For the 2013 prom, high school seniors have a lot of fashion trends that can lead them to the perfect dress.
Trends
One trend offered by designers is a prom dress with Hi-Low hems. A prom dress with Hi-Low hems is lower in the front and longer in the back. Another cut that is popular among designers in 2013 is a dress that has a long hem, and is form fitting. Both cuts, when executed correctly, could provide the wearer with a regal confidence. In regards to patterns, animal prints are popular once again. Most of the colors in this year’s collections are bold and bright. Gold metallic dresses with black accents are another huge trend for this year’s prom. Pastel colors won’t do for this year’s senior prom!
Another trend in the 2013 prom dress is the way that seniors are obtaining them. One unique and inexpensive way for high school seniors to find their perfect prom dress is to rent a designer dress. If a senior finds her prom dress this way, she can ensure that she will not be wearing the same dress as another senior. Renting a designer dress also makes parents happy since it won’t break the bank. In addition to renting their prom dress, seniors are also finding their prom dress at bridal shops. Looking at a bridal shop for prom dresses allow seniors to be able to try on a variety of different styles before having to make their final decision. Though it may be more expensive than renting a dress, going the retail route may be a better option for those who have never purchased formal-wear.
Accessories
Another aspect of making sure that the selected prom dress is perfect is making sure that the right accessories are selected. The accessories that are chosen should complement the prom dress, not over power it. If the dress contains a lot of flashy beading, the jewelry should match, but should be simple. For dresses that have little to no beading, the accessories can get away with being more sparkly. The gloves that are worn, if any, should follow the same guidelines as the jewelry. They should complement the dress, not distract people from it.
Regardless of the style, color, or the place where the dress is found, seniors to make sure that the dress is one that they won’t be embarrassed by ten years from now. There’s nothing worse than having to look back and feel shame about the fashion choices that were made. So have some fun win selecting this year’s prom dress, and make sure that it correlates with your personality.

I remember going shopping for my prom dress – after hours I picked this beautiful yellow dress and lo and behold, when I got to the dance another girl had the same dress in pink! We looked like a pair of cupcakes. I was so mortified.
