This post is brought to you as a part of the Dog Days of Summer Campaign, hosted by the folks at dog training collars. Summer is warming up, but with the heat comes some special considerations for our pets.
As you may all know I have a couple of pets. I have my Cat – Mischief and my dog – Tach (Short for Tachometer). They are both part of the family, and I treat them like they are. And with being treated like family, they are expected to listen, and be well behaved when in public!
With the summer months, we have been taking my puppy with us on mini vacations and also when Lil C goes to my parents house while I am at work. Not only does lil C think it is fun, but it is also to help socialize my Tach and my parents new puppy (Ginger). Since we live right around the corner from my parents, we are always visiting there during the summer (literally right around the corner). It gives Tach a little bit of
Some things that I have learned from having pets:
1. During the summer – Think about your pets at home while you’re at work. If you know it’s going to get hot… Make sure they have tons of water and make sure you keep the air on – at a comfortable level. Dogs, as well as cats, have a coat of fur…. That has to make it a little warmer for them… and once you add in the heat from outside… You don’t want to give them heat stroke. Another thing that I do to keep my loved pets comfy while I am gone is keeping the shades closed. I know Mischief loves laying in the sun, but the way my house sits, If i have the blinds open for him, my house cooks.
2. Make sure they have plenty of water. Even when they are inside in a cooler environment, Lil C wears Tach out. They can run all over the house and when its time to calm down and Drink – Tach Drinks! I have a bowl of water upstairs by our bedrooms and one downstairs in the kitchen, so there’s always water to drink. When we go outside to play for a while, I make sure to have some ice cubes in the water bowl. I know during the summer, There’s nothing better than a Glass (or water bowl) of Ice cold water. And I know Tach loves the ice cubes! He is always grabbing them out of the bowl and chewing on them. He actually seems to like ice cubes more than doggy bones! Hmm, Super great idea for doggy treats! Great way to save money.
3. Making sure that The pets listen – just like making sure that lil c listens. When I say “It’s time to come in” I mean its TIME TO COME IN! I know Lil C loves being outside, but Just looking out for his health/safety with the summer heat. Well, most pets are the same when it comes to being outside. My puppy loves being outside long when he has someone to play with (and lil c will b the one who will play with him for sure). I know my moms pup Ginger will RUN The backyard rampid… when she’s given the chance. But when I say time to come in – I do mean it’s getting TOO hot… and even though Tach has fur, he still has the chance of getting a sun burn.

Nice tips! Like you, I also have a cat – Katy. Yeah, named after the ‘singer’. Ha ha! Anyway, my cat seemed to love the heat and even lays outside during the afternoon. I don’t seem to notice any changes on her but it’s still good to be cautious. More water indeed! 🙂
