It’s funny how different life’s big steps are. To the college student, the most important thing in your apartment is your big screen television with all the special direct TV packages offered. Then you graduate, get a job and it is all about owning something for yourself. For most, it seems to be a new car. Now you are the proud owner of something new and shiny and the “real” world is getting exciting. You don’t have a schedule or responsibility and life is good. Next step, you get married. Life is still wonderful and fun. You get to buy a nice, new home and live with someone you actually enjoy seeing every day. You still do what you want to do, but now you have company. Then the big change, you have a kid. Now that is when things change. I don’t think anyone can prepare you for that type of change. Your schedule is not your own, you must work around bedtimes and babysitters, your spontaneous weekend trips have to be scheduled weeks maybe months in advance and you get more excited about diapers on sale than designer handbags. The crazy thing about it all is that you love every minute and are happier than at any other big step.
