Just because we’re in the middle of a rather large move, doesn’t mean that we’re going to skip out on the Big Game. It just means that our packing/unpacking will just be paused for a few hours while we have friends and family over to watch the game. Don’t worry, we made sure that we set up our family room before ANYTHING else in the house! Can’t chance missing out watching our team play.
With all my cooking utensils still in boxes, I had to become a little creative on what to serve. We had to have something that was tasty, and that wasn’t going to take a lot of preparation. Since I moved to a new city, I had to do a quick internet search to see what grocery stores we had around us. You have no idea how thrilled I was when I found out that there was a Kroger’s within a couple minutes of my new house! I couldn’t help but get sidetracked while walking through Kroger. It feels like it has been forever since I have shopped at a Kroger. It is nice to have one in my neighborhood again. A few things caught my eyes when I was scoping out the aisles. I saw Wright® Brand Bacon and thought about making bacon wrapped sausages. But I had no aluminum foil, nor toothpicks unpacked. Then I saw the Ball Park® Hot Dogs and thought about making some corn dog muffins, but I didn’t know where my cupcake pans were. That’s when I saw Tyson® Any’tizers® in the freezer section. I knew my guests would love them, and I wouldn’t have to spend the whole day slaving over the oven.
I grabbed both the Honey BBQ and the Sweet & Spicy Bourbon flavors. I knew these two would appeal to everyone. Shhh, don’t tell, but I did grab an extra bag just for me to munch on for snacks during the week!
Why is Tyson my Homegating Hack? I love the fact that they are so simple to make. If you’re only having a few, you can throw them in the microwave for a couple minutes. But if you’re having the gang over for the Big Game…. then all you have to do is line your baking sheet with foil, coat with cooking spray and lay out your frozen pieces on top. It should only take 18 to 22 minutes on the top rack of your oven at 350°F! All you have to do is open, warm and serve! And if you don’t want to place them in their own bowls, then just leave them on the pan. Just grab some trivets to place between your baking sheet and your table, and then you’ll have even less dishes to do after everyone leaves!
How can you prep for a Homegating event in a rush?
- Make sure that your home looks presentable! For us that means that all the bedroom doors get closed – because the kids rooms, well, they’re kids rooms. For a football game, though, the only room that mattered being clean was our family room. Everything gets cleared out of the way. We bring in an extra small end table from downstairs so there are a few more places for everyone to set their drinks.
- Pick foods that are easy to make. You could always call for delivery, but making something at home can be just as easy! Most people don’t mind having chips, salsa and finger foods while watching a game.
- Decorations are a bonus, but as long as you have the big screen playing the game… That’s all that matters! If you really feel the need to do some quick decorating – grab napkins in your home teams colors!
- Wear your teams colors!
What is your favorite Homegating snack hacks? Who are you rooting for?
