As a parent, it’s always fun to find unique ways to connect and enjoy quality time with your child. Setting up a special day just for just the two of you can mean the world to them! Ready to surprise your child or grandchild with some old fashioned memory-making activities and a great lunch too? What could be more fun than combining the charm and beauty of the great outdoors with the adventure of the modern age? It’s time to get started setting up the perfect Pokemon Go Picnic! Just follow these tips to have an eventful day together, and enjoy seeing the smile on your child’s face grow.
Check Your Pokebag and Delete Unnecessary Items
Make sure you map out a route for your adventure that includes a few pit stops at popular Poke Stops in your neighborhood or city on your way to the picnic spot. Before leaving, double check that the device your child is using is fully charged, and have a portable battery charger with you to take along. Next, have your child turn on their device with the Pokemon Go app on, and check to make sure their “Items” list has enough space to handle adding a few quick Poke Stop visits. At each Poke Stop they will receive new free items such as more Pokeballs, Masterballs, Ultraballs, Potions, Super Potions, Hyper Potions, Poke Eggs, or Revives.
These items can add up quickly and it’s important to delete the unnecessary items from time to time that your bag is carrying in order to make room for the more important items. It is recommended to stay below 275 items out of 350 before heading out on your Pokemon Go Picnic together. Try deleting 25-30 each of Revives and Potions as they won’t be as necessary as Pokeballs on your journey. You can delete these Items by clicking on the Trash Can symbol to the right of the Item in the Items list and clicking on the Plus symbol to show how many you wish to “Trash”.
Prepare Your Picnic Lunch
Now that your bag has room and devices are fully charged, you are ready for phase two! Have a picnic lunch prepared to bring with you that includes healthy foods and a special dessert that can easily be stored in a cooler. Don’t forget to include utensils, napkins, cups or container drinks, and a blanket for setting on the ground, or a tablecloth for placing on a picnic table.
If you aren’t the homemade picnic lunch type, you can start out in the car for your Pokemon journey to your nearest Fast Food restaurant and pick up some of your child’s personal favorite meal items that will be easy to eat outdoors for your picnic. Now that all the preparations are complete, it’s time to enjoy the adventure!
Poke Stops and Pictures
There is usually a Poke Stop near statues, monuments, local attractions, and non-profits. Notice where some of these items are prior to your Pokemon Go Picnic and work your route around them so that you can stock up on Pokeballs or Eggs for your adventure. Visiting a public park or garden area outside a library may have a Poke Stop or two nearby that will work perfectly for this outing together. You can leave your cooler in the car, or bring it with you and start by enjoying some fresh air and a walking excursion together as you get to chat and catch wild Pokemon. Head towards some of these Poke Stops during your walk, pausing to enjoy a snapshot or two with selfies of you or your child next to a wild Pokemon in the process. This will make for some extra fun memories and give your child some photography pointers at the same time.
Incense and Poke Eggs
Another neat idea is to have your child turn on an Incense from their Items list while going on your Pokemon Go Picnic walk. This will cause more wild Pokemon to be drawn to your child’s device allowing them to catch or see an increased number of wild Pokemon appearing during your walk. It also allows for a higher probability of seeing a rare Pokemon in the process.
You can also be sure to have your child put one of their Poke Eggs in an incubator so they can be using all the walking or (slow) driving you do during your Pokemon Go Picnic Adventure to their advantage to help hatch their Poke Eggs! To put a Poke Egg in an Incubator, just click on the “Pokemon” screen in your menu and then swipe to the left to see the Poke Eggs you have so far. Choose any Poke Egg to put in an Incubator. It will ask you if you want to do so. Click yes, then click on the Incubator you wish to use. Usually you only have one infinity Incubator, but on some higher levels you earn a second Incubator that has up to three uses before it breaks. Once the Poke Egg is done in the Incubator it will be time to hatch an exciting new, surprise Pokemon!
Surprise Pokemon Go Gift To End The Day
Once you arrive at your Picnic destination, pull out the cooler and enjoy that well earned tasty lunch! Laugh, share your favorite Pokemon Go capture moments or pictures you snapped, and have a great time chatting with your child. You can end the adventure with a surprise gift card for either Google Play or iTunes for your child to use in Pokemon Go for purchasing a larger bag, more Pokemon space, or additional Pokeballs and other treasures within the app. This will thrill your child more than you know! Have a blast and enjoy making some memories!
