One of my favorite Kitchen appliances is by far my Kitchen Aid mixer. Not only is it great for making cookies and bread dough, but it also has the option to have attachments to be added on. I have recently received the Mockmill for my Kitchen Aid to review, and I think I have found a new favorite!

When I told my friends that I was looking to find a place to purchase Wheat Berries, I received a few chuckles… But with winter coming up, I know I’m going to be baking a lot more. And I like knowing what goes into the foods I make. I want to give my kids the best that I can when it comes to what they eat.
The Mockmill attachment is extremely easy to set up. There is a silver piece at the very front of your KitchenAid mixer that is made to come off. You remove that – and then attach the Mockmill right where that use to go. There is a screw that goes in the side to hold the Mockmill into place. I found that on my mixer, I had to tighten the screw after using the Mockmill for about 10 minutes just to snug it back up in place again. So what can you grind in your Mockmill? You can actually grind many things. I personally chose Wheat Berries to mill. There are 2 style of Wheat berries. There is Soft and Hard. I picked up both styles when I went to my local Bulk Food store. After doing a little searching, I found that if you’re wanting to make breads, then you’d want to use Harder Wheat berries, and if your doing pastries, you’ll want to use Softer Wheat Berries.
I took this opportunity as a learning experience for my children. Lil C is just so use to going to the store and buying pre-made food. And peanut is just so young, that she is just quite inquisitive about everything. Both the kids were able to help me pour the Wheat berries into the Mockmill – and watched it come out the chute as ground flour. As you can tell, Peanut loved to pour the wheat berries into the mill. She did one whole batch on her own.
As you can see, there is a difference in how the Wheat Berries mill down. I used the same setting on the Mockmill for both of these.
The hubby and I were talking about the cost/value of milling your own flour vs purchasing from the local store. Yes there is a Start up Cost (Purchasing your own Mockmill), but the benefits of making your own flour out weighs the cost of the Mockmill! I know know exactly what is going into my breads and my cookies! I know my kids will appreciate what we Make – knowing the process that gets us the flour. And I love the extra bonding time that Peanut and I have when it comes to her helping me use the mill!

First that is a very nice machine. I love how soft it made the berries. Wow. Your daughter is so cute. Glad to see you don’t have to worry about it hurting her. I had no clue you could attach things to the Mixers. Hopefully you can make up a ton of treats for her.

This is fabulous! I love that you and Peanut are learning about the REAL things that matter together. I learned so much about real food from my parents as well, and I can tell you it makes for wonderful childhood memories! Also, I love you are learning about how wonderful FRESH really is!
