Take a time-travel adventure into the 16th century at the 37th annual Michigan Renaissance Festival! Join our Queen Elizabeth in a jubilee! Inside our turreted gates, visitors enjoy the sights and sounds of a 17-acre village, complete with building reproductions of Renaissance shops, taverns and a magnificent castle. Continuous entertainment takes place on the streets and on 17 themed stages; featuring full-contact armored jousting, comedy and theater shows, music, games, people-powered rides and so much more! Fabulous food and  more than 300 artisans displaying their gallery-quality works complete the experience! Join us weekends and Labor day August 22nd thru October 4th! Plus Festival Friday on October 2nd.renaissance_Festival_3We were able to attend the Renaissance Festival this year!  I was quite exited.  It was the first time that Hubbys, Lil C or Peanut has gone.  Miss G and I have been there Previously (Even though it’s been about 10 years since I went there last).  The Michigan Renaissance Festival is located in Holly Michigan.  It was about a good hour drive from our house on a clear freeway day – but knowing the Fest was in town, We planned on taking some back roads and giving extra time.  When we arrived there, hubby was surprised at how much space was allotted for parking, they had the main Ren Fest lot full, plus the additional parking lot was mostly full.  We made it just in time to catch a shuttle to the Festival, Saving all of us some walking time.

As soon as you enter the festival, you are taken back to the old world.  There were singers and musicians and everyone talking in the Renaissance language.  Everywhere you turned there was something to see or to do.

My favorite thing about the Renaissance time period was the Jousts games.    If you want to get seats to be able to watch the Jousts, I would recommend getting to the area at least 30-40 minutes before they start.  We got there just as it was beginning, and it was Standing room only.  And we got stuck a few rows back.    I picked up Lil C and carried him on my hip – just so he could see over some of the crowd – especially with it being his first time seeing a joust.

After the jousts were over, The Knights would let the guests see and pet the horses.  Peanut was so excited!   She loves animals and being able to touch them.  She kept calling the horse a dog, but we will work on that.   These horses were so tame, and gentile.

As I said before, it seemed like every where you turned there was something for the kids to do.  Lil C never shot a bow and arrow before, so we let him try for the first time.   He started off a little VERY wobbly, but ended up getting very close to the targets.renaissance_Festival_2One thing we didn’t quite expect was how busy it was going to be.   Because of the vast amount of people there, the lines for everything were quite.  I wanted to have the hubs try a Turkey Leg, but the line was probably about 45 -60 minutes long… and since we had the 3 kids, we opted to have something a little quicker to get (like Pizza).  Maybe next time we can try to get him a Turkey Leg.
One thing I would recommend is bringing sunglasses.   Even if it’s not really sunny out, just because of all the dust that gets kicked up when the dirt is so dry.

Would you like to go to the Michigan Renaissance Festival?  If so, I have a great deal for you.  All my readers can save $3 Off Gate Admission! With this Coupon, receive $3 off an Adult Admission or a FREE child ticket with the purchase of an Adult Ticket. Not Valid with any other offers.
August 22nd thru October 4th, 10am – 7pm, Rain or Shine! FREE Parking
