Just last week, Peanut received her first Round of immunizations. For a mother, this is one of the harder things that we have to take our kids for.  None of us like knowing that they will get poked – and possibly Cry.  For her appointment, Lil C went into the room with me, and kept telling her that she was going to get a “shot”. She sat there and smiled and giggled, until they poked her.

Immunizations_1After the appointment, Lil C and I had a long talk about why Peanut had to get shots and asked if he did when he was a baby.  We had a great discussion on how immunizations were important for not only Peanut, but for him as well.  He was sure that only babies got shots, and was surprised to know that going through the school years, he will need to get some too.   Looking at the chart that Walgreens has, he is due to get a set this year.

Walgreens is making it even easier for you to get your child back-to-school immunizations, like whooping cough and meningitis.  This year,   when you get your child immunized at Walgreens, they will help provide a lifesaving vaccine to a child in a developing country through the UN Foundation’s Shot@Life campaign.  One thing that I love about the Walgreens #GiveAShot is that it is Quick and Easy.  You don’t need an appointment to get your child immunized.  They accept MOST insurances and the pharmacists will report back to your primary care physician.

Lil C is not looking forward to getting the next round of immunizations.  The idea of a needle scares him.  But as long as we keep an open line of communication we can discuss the reasons he needs to get them.   I have told him that it is okay to be scared, but I would be right there next to him when he gets them.  I told him if he wants to squeeze my hand he can and that yes it is okay to cry.   We will be making a stop to Walgreens in the next couple weeks to check out the “Get a Shot, Give A Shot” program, and get Lil C protected.

That’s so good that your son is old enough that you two can have a discussion about the need for vaccines. I always felt bad for my daughter when she was a baby. I’m mostly immune to her crying now, although I do feel bad for her when she’s in genuine pain. Still, when she was a baby, it killed me to hear her cry! At least Walgreen’s is putting a humanitarian spin on something that’s not pleasant but very necessary!
