You don’t have to be a design expert to freshen up the decorating in your home. It doesn’t have to cost tons of money, either. Here are some decorating hacks that will help you breathe new life into your rooms.
Groupies
For an easy update to accessorizing your room, find any vases, ceramic pieces, etc that share a shape or color theme. Group them together for a fashionable look.
Basic Black
To make a statement in a room, just change out a white or neutral lamp shade for a black shade. This will add some drama. A dark shade does block some light, though, so adjust your bulb wattage as necessary.
Texture
Adding a little texture to your decorative items is a great way to break things up in a room. Woven baskets or a small piece of rattan furniture add texture and interest.
Warmth and Shine
To warm up a room add some metallic accent pieces. Pick one type of metallic (gold, bronze, silver, etc.) and add a few items throughout your space.
Reflect
While it is true that mirrors can make a space look bigger, you don’t want to have one big mirror in a room. Try a grouping of small mirrors in interesting shapes.
Containment
Your coffee table can become a cluttered mess, but you can solve this problem. Add a pretty tray or platter to collect items. Store your remote, add some books or a candle to make it look nice.
Book Design
A great refresh to your bookcases is an easy way to add some interest to your room. Don’t stack all the books vertically. Have one shelf with horizontal, one with vertical, etc. Add a few of your favorite mementos or decorative items to fill in the empty spots on the shelves.
Hang It
Rug art? If you have a favorite rug that you don’t have room for, think about hanging it up on the wall as a piece of art! This is a cost effective and easy way to add some texture to a room as well.
Contrast is Better
One of the biggest decorating hacks to better define a space is to choose a paint color for the molding and baseboards that contrasts with the wall color.
Alignment
When hanging pictures or artwork keep things alike. You can do this by having all frames the same size or color. Another way to make this work is to hang all pieces in the same line of vision, either horizontally or vertically.
Have fun with your decor and mix it up with one or many of these tips. Do you have any decorating hacks you’d love to share? Feel free to post them in the comments!
